UCLA Recreation is looking for certified lifeguards.
UCLA Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age
Current American Red Cross (or equivalent)Lifeguard Training & First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards
Must be available to work a minimum of six (6) hours/week – maximum twenty (20) hours/week during Fall, Winter and Spring quarters and maximum forty (40) hours/week during Summer.
Preferred: Preventing Disease Transmission, Oxygen Administration, Water Safety Instructor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to maintain high fitness level and pass departmental employment physical skills evaluation.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Lifeguarding surveillance, rescue techniques, emergency preparation, and head, neck, and back injury management skills.
Decision making skills.
Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately & appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
2. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of EMS.
3. Performs site-specific Emergency Action Plans, proper storage protocol of pool covers and pool cover reels, and positioning pool covers as outlined in orientation.
4. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
5. Attends and participates in monthly in-service training sessions.
6. Prepares appropriate checklists, tally sheets, and reports.
7. Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
8. Handles or refers other problems and situations as they arise within the facility.
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Head Lifeguard, Student Managers, and/or Aquatics Coordinator.
