The name means SInging, LAughing, and MEmories, and it is our goal to live up to our name, creating summer days full of songs, laughter, and happy, long-lasting memories. Si-La-Meo is a day camp on the campus of Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, that serves youth age 5 to 15 over a 9.5-week-long program.
What we do: Primary duties are to develop and implement quality, developmentally appropriate, outdoor education experiences. Activities include swimming, boating, target sports, rock wall climbing, hiking, nature and outdoor living skills, creative arts, sports and recreation, teambuilding, field trips, geocaching/orienteering, and activities based on the theme of the week. Other components of the program include special events to celebrate youth learning and encourage family participation, as well as special guests to bring some local expertise to SLM programming!
Who we need: Outgoing individuals who enjoy spending their summer days outside! Experience working with youth at a day camp, resident camp, or other youth development setting are vital to success in guiding behavior and resolving conflicts. Creativity, flexibility, and organization are necessary attributes to have a successful day assisting youth through the new and exciting adventures they will experience. Si-La-Meo staff are superheroes to campers, and being a good role model creates a place that youth love to be, parents feel secure in, and staff are excited to work for!
Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor: This position will provide instruction and supervision to campers during swimming and boating activities. This position will work with the Aquatics Specialist to monitor campers’ skill levels and implement methods of progression and rewarding achievements. This position is responsible for lifeguarding or facilitating aquatics activities, locker room supervision, and pool area set up and clean up, and youth supervision during camper choice time. This position will also be required to assist the Program Director in programming activities as assigned.
Requirements: Minimum age of 18, current lifeguard certification required, current Water Safety Instructor certification required, previous experience in swim instruction and lesson planning.
Pay: $12.72/hour
Season: May 25- August 12
