The City of Laguna Beach Community Services Department seeks experienced, enthusiastic individuals to work at the Laguna Beach High School Community Pool. Under the general direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Pool Lifeguard/Senior Pool Lifeguard assists in leading staff in daily pool operations and activities.

Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Lifeguards instruct swim classes, enforce pool rules and regulations during recreational swim periods, enforce rules of safety, prevent accidents, perform rescues of persons in distress, and perform facility clean-up and maintenance at the Laguna Beach High School pool facility. Also performs related duties as assigned by the Aquatics Coordinator. In order to be considered, applicants must apply online and provide the required certification(s) listed under Minimum Qualifications. Please attach the certifications to your online application.
Tryout Procedure:
Tryouts will be held at the Laguna Beach High School Community Pool, at 670 Park Ave, Laguna Beach CA, 92651. Qualified candidates will be notified via email if they are selected to participate in tryouts, and will be provided with the date for tryouts at that time.
Applicants who successfully complete tryouts will be invited for an interview, and will be evaluated on the basis of education, training, and work experience.
The appointing authority will further review the job related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.
All prospective Senior Pool Lifeguards must successfully pass a police background check and a live-scan fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice.
All prospective Pool Lifeguards must successfully pass a police background check and a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice.
The appointing authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.
Examples of Duties
This position performs the duties of lifeguarding at the pool, supervises and assists with instructional programs, performs facility clean up and maintenance, performs locker room supervision and other duties assigned to assist the supervisor or other facility personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must be at least 15 years of age. Applicants under the age of 18 must have a work permit.
License/Certificate Requirements: Must possess current American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding.
Experience: Experience as a pool lifeguard/swim instructor, advanced swimming ability, and prior public contact work experience, including working with children is desirable, but not required.
