POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking part-time Lifeguards and Swim Instructors. Lifeguards are an integral part of the YMCA’s Aquatic Program because they ensure the safety of all members and guests using the aquatics facility. This position is also responsible for maintaining a clean and safe swimming environment that members and guests can enjoy whether they are at the Y for a leisurely swim or lap swimming exercise. Through the work of the Lifeguard, the YMCA should show constant attentiveness to the pool area and to the member’s safety through positive and consistent enforcement of pool rules.
Variety of shifts are available
Starting Pay: $8.23/ $8.77
Part-time Employees receive complimentary usage of all YMCA of Greater Erie facilities (Glenwood Park, Downtown, County, and Eastside Family) and have the opportunity to add additional eligible members for a small cost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Fulfill Y’s mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Promote and incorporate the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and mission into all aspects of the job and in the community.
Maintain diligent and constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas at all times and respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Enforce all aquatic rules and policies on a fair and consistent basis.
Maintain emergency equipment in proper working condition. Report any problems or needs to the Aquatic Director immediately.
Attend all monthly mandatory aquatic in-service trainings.
Measure and record chemical and temperature readings at designated times.
Ensure all doors are locked and secured if last person to leave area or if pool area is closed.
Fill out the proper forms and turn in to Aquatic Director when there is an accident or incident.
Follow pool operations and procedures for opening and closing facility.
Participate as an active team member for the overall advancement of the Association.
Perform any additional tasks assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 16 years of age with at least two years of High School or equivalent.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent human relations skills.
Required trainings:
Must be current in American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration and First Aid. If not currently certified, training is available.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Lead, demonstrate, and/or participate in activities for a sustained period of time.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel or crouch, talk and hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
The employee will frequently be required audibly to address large groups of people in indoor and outdoor settings.
Swim at least 500 yard; to dive up a depth of 10 feet; carry a 10 pound weight 25 yards; carry at least 50 lbs. for up to 500 feet; ability to move at least 500 lbs.
The employee will be exposed to cleaning chemicals as well as pool chemicals.
The employee may be exposed to extreme hot or cold environments.
