Come and join the Aquatics Team as a Lifeguard for Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education and Recreation! You will be responsible for providing a safe and friendly environment at the pool facility for all patrons.
Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education and Recreation was formed in 1956 by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District. Commonly known as "LGS Recreation", the department was re-organized by the three local school districts as a separate joint powers agency to ensure the effective and efficient provision of community education and recreation services to the communities of Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno and Mountain communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION: LIFEGUARD
SUMMARY: Lifeguards work under the Head Lifeguard or Management Staff, and are responsible for the safety of patrons in and around the pool at all times. In addition, they are responsible for providing a friendly environment at the pool facility as well as its overall cleanliness. The will be required to perform a variety of tasks responsibly and professionally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following but no limited to:
Arrive at work on time and in proper uniform.
Know and enforce the pool rules consistently and fairly.
Complete and sign their time sheet on time.
Check and monitor the schedule to ensure that they arrive on time to each of their shifts (this is solely the individuals responsibility).
Go through the proper procedure to find a sub if they are ill or cannot work a shift.
Assist patrons with problems or concerns in a prompt and professional manner.
Immediately inform he Head Lifeguard on duty of any problems with patrons or staff that cannot be immediately resolved.
Know the Emergency Action Plan, how to activate it, and their role in it.
Assist with accidents and Injuries as directed and complete proper incident and accident reports in detail.
Practice and maintain all certification skills and be able to pass skill tests at any time during the season.
Provide a professional appearance of the facility and themselves at all times. This inludes keeping the pool area, locker rooms clean and stocked.
Attend all in-service trainings
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Posses a current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aide and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
Preferred additional certifications: Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training Instructor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Clubhouse, recreation and other agency facilities may be noisy with very dynamic movement.
Pool employees may experience wet and slippery surfaces.
Individual is frequently exposed to natural weather conditions that may vary from extreme sun to cold, wet rainy and windy conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; run; squat; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands over head and use arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
